…And I’m Not Even That Sorry
Today, I cancelled my Asana subscription. [Asana: a beautifully overachieving to-do list for people who colour-code their dreams. Aka me.] That’s forty Canadian dollars a month I’m no longer spending on a system that, let’s be honest, mostly just made me feel organized while my clients continued to ignore it with polite confusion.
Don’t get me wrong—I love Asana. I love systems. I love lists. I love sublists of lists that reference other lists. Give me a good Gantt chart and I’m basically purring. I love to know I’m not missing anything. But my clients? They are brilliant entrepreneurs, soulful authors, and visionaries. They’re not trying to geek out on task dependencies. They’re trying to get their work into the world.
When you write a book, you don’t write it for yourself; you write it for your reader. You have a pretty good idea of what they know, believe, love, hate, crave, and how they take in information. You meet them on their level and speak their language. That’s how ideas land. That’s how trust builds.
Entourage is an author services & publishing company. We exist to make life easier for our clients. So why drag said clients over to my comfort zone? Why not meet them in theirs instead?
Sometimes, a good “old-fashioned” Google Sheet or Excel file does the trick. And you know what? That’s okay with me. If the KISS method is what keeps the ball moving and the stress low, everyone wins.
So instead of force-feeding “efficiency,” I’m choosing alignment, simplicity, and communication in their comfort zone, not mine.
Asana, you were lovely. But it’s not you. It’s… well, okay, it is kind of you. But mostly, you are the wrong tool for this season.
We move on.
